Service Learning Update: 28 February 2020
Thank you to everyone who dressed up in red on Valentine’s Day to raise money for our Service Learning Partners. We raised over Php 78,000 – one of our best results ever!
The week before half term also saw our senior students working hard to raise money for their Service Learning ASA partners, by offering a variety of items as an “anonymous gift, to be delivered to the person of your choice”. Congratulations to:
- Habitat for Humanity – Balloons & Serenades
- One Million Lights – Roses
- Red Cross – Cookies
- Kythe – Chocolates
Students from Winston Magazine also got the fund-raising bug, selling Pancit Canton on Friday 14 February, to raise money for their chosen service learning partner, San Lorenzo Academy. Well done to everyone.
Taal Volcano Update
Following our successful donations drive, and the fantastic support for our ‘Tumblers for Taal’ initiative, we are continuing to keep in close communication with the National Civil Defence Network (NCDN) and Springboard to find out how else the BSM community can help those affected.
Now that the threat levels have been reduced, rehabilitation efforts can begin, and we are looking for how we can support our friends at Chosen Children Village (CCV). Please watch this space for further updates.
BSM Model United Nations
While we wait to find out exactly what we can do, our senior students are continuing to raise funds to make sure we are well placed to help. The student organisers of this year’s MSMUN 2020 conference, to be held at BSM from 17-18 April, are inviting all delegates to pay a voluntary Php 300 attendance fee, to raise funds for rebuilding efforts for those communities affected by the Taal Volcano eruption, including CCV.
Dates still to be confirmed
Although the situation regarding the CoronaVirus remains uncertain, we are still aiming to hold Senior Service Learning Week and International Evening in this school year. We are hoping to be able to confirm the dates before Easter, and to hold both events before the end of Term 3 if at all possible. Although we are very keen to press ahead, the safety and well-being of our community remains our priority. So, please bear with us, and continue to be safe BSM.
