SPORTS NEWS

Breakers Cup
British International School, Phuket

This past week 21 senior students travelled to Phuket, Thailand to participate in the Breakers (Basketball) Cup. This tournament has grown significantly over the past few years, seeing eight teams in both the girls and boys brackets, featuring teams from Thailand, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

The girls started off the tournament by winning their first game, but came just short in their next two games, landing them in the lower half of the bracket going into day two. They finished strongly, showing great grit and resilience during a 19-0 run coming from behind to beat Prince of Wales Island International School to secure 5th place.

The boys started well, winning all three of their games, landing them in the top seed for their group. Semi-finals saw them playing a tough Shenzhen team. Despite trailing most of the game, like the girls they showed great determination and desire to compete to the very end of the game, and with about six minutes left they pulled ahead for the win. In the finals they met American School Bangkok, the number one seed of the tournament. They gave them a good fight, and finished a respectable 2nd place. The boys played as a team in every sense of the word, and should be very proud of their efforts.

Throughout the tournament there were several events for individuals to participate in as well. Atasha and Paco represented BSM in the skills challenge, and Emily and Gareth in the 3 point challenge. Emily even made it to the finals!

A huge thank you and congratulations goes out to both teams and their coaches; Hannah Candano and Archie Badoria. Everyone represented BSM with pride and should be very proud of their achievements.
