Service Learning News

Countdown to the Fun Run!

We are delighted that, at the time of writing (Thursday, 11am), 395 runners have signed up to join the 5th Annual Fun Run, and we have raised almost Php 14,000 for the UNHCR Step with Refugees Campaign.

So far, 27% of our Primary students have signed up to join in, and we look forward to seeing even more on the day. Senior students need a little more encouragement to get out of bed early, but every km really does help to support our Service Learning Partners, so please do try and come along. Tickets are still on sale on the day, just come a little early.

Bake Sale

We hope you find time this weekend to bake something to contribute to the bake sale (or to pop to the shops instead). Early morning cakes, cookies and muffins are eagerly looked forward to by our students – and everything sold will add to the money raised for our Service Learning Partners. Just bring your contributions to the bake sale table as you arrive on Sunday.

What is on offer

As well as the bake sale, there will be sausages in buns (cooked on the brand new BSM BBQ), hot and cold drinks (this year supplied by our staffroom ladies!). We also have chupa chups lollies on sale, as well as the event T-shirts.

Fancy Dress

The much loved fancy dress competition is back on again. There are limited prizes available for anyone who dresses up and catches the eye of our judges. If you receive a prize sticker, keep hold of it during the run, and take it to the Prize Table afterwards and choose your prize!

Student Stalls

A number of senior students have organised stalls at the Fun Run this year selling things to support their Year 12 Bayanihan Partners or their Service Learning ASA Partners (including ChildHaus and Red Cross). So, bring some extra cash, and please support t students if you can.

On the day!

Please come and find us in Urdaneta Village Park. If you are coming by Grab ask for the Urdaneta Village Clubhouse which is right next to the park. Tickets will be on sale from 6.30am, and the Zumba will start at 6.45am. We start the run promptly at 7am, so please do not be late.

The 3k and 6k will start together, and be the first runners through the start/finish arch. Both routes head around the inside perimeter of the village. 3k runners finish after one loop; 6k runners continue and do two circuits of the village before finishing. There are no prizes – just fun!

Once the 3k and 6k runners have started, we will start the Fun Dash (the pink route on the map). The route is a little different, so please make sure you know which distance you are running, and that your children know where they are going!

There are five water stations around the route (marked 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10), and marshalls (at points 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9) to guide runners. There will also be bottled water on sale inside the park. Please avoid waste by bringing your own water bottles with you if possible.

UNHCR Step with Refugees

And finally, a reminder of the UNHCR Step with Refugees Campaign to help raise awareness of the struggle faced by refugees across the world. BSM will contribute Php 10 for every km that is run, and you can keep track of your contribution by connecting through your fitness app. The global target is 2 billion kilometres – the distance that refugees travel every year to reach safety. Let’s do our BSM bit.
