Date For Your Diaries

International Evening: Friday 7 February, 2020

Mark your diaries for Friday 7 February. A month after we come back, BSM will be celebrating another International Evening.

Shout out for Performers
We are looking for performers who would like to showcase their dancing, singing and performance skills at our event. The focus is on performances from around the globe – but we will consider anything you would like to suggest! All members of the BSM community (students, parents, staff) are encouraged to join in.

Volunteers for Food Stalls
We are also looking for parents to run (or help out) at the amazing food stalls. We can help with the costs, logistics – we just need you!

Please fill in the form to let us know if you would like to perform or organise a performance; run or help out on a food stall; or get involved in another way: International Evening 2020.

BSM Charity Cup: Saturday 7 December
By Jason Arroyo, BSM Football Coordinator

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Charity Cup on Saturday at BSM. The atmosphere was positive and we are glad you all enjoyed the day. Well played to all the teams involved and Congratulations to the teams who finished Top of their respective division. A significant amount of sports kit was donated for the Fair Play for All Foundation, a special thanks to those who organised this. Php 6,800 in entry fees were matched by Service Learning, so BSM will donate Php 13,600. A very successful event.

25 Teams took part from the BSM Lions, Payatas FC (Fair Play for All), Manila Japan FC & KAYA FC. The BSM highlight was the U11 Lions winning their division playing some quality football.”

Childhaus ASA Christmas Party: Sunday 8 December

By Kim Jao, 12DCL

“On 8 December, five leaders from the ChildHaus ASA at BSM attended the annual ChildHaus Christmas party. In addition to dancing, food and music, the event  featured a number of donation handovers and commitment announcements. During this event, the BSM students were able to announce their commitment to fund a stay in nurse and doctor for ChildHaus; they also did a donation handover of meals for the 100 children present and cooking materials for the kitchen.“

Makabata ASA Christmas: Monday 9 December

By Lorin Bektas, 12NBR

“To celebrate Christmas, the members of Makabata hosted a fun-filled Christmas party. This ASA in BSM aims to educate young Filipino children aged 5-6 years old through various resources, activities and conversations. Examples of this include collectively reading books, colouring and playing group games. At the end of this week’s session, we distributed eco bags filled with essential school supplies. This was an amazing way to finish our 2019 sessions as the kids and the BSM students were able to have fun together and give back during the Christmas season.”

Year 1 Donations to Tahanan Ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home: Monday 9 December
By Nathalie dela Rosa and Cheryl Mackenzie, Year 1

“On Monday the Year One children helped to load up the BSM mini-bus with gifts and groceries for our service learning partner, Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home. Sincere thanks go to our wonderful Year One parents for supporting our service learning partner so generously at this busy time of year. The children from the home will be delighted to receive their wrapped Christmas gifts and cards from our students and we’ve also donated many groceries, certainly enough to last a fair while! Salamat po at Maligayang Pasko.”

KS2 Girl Scouts Shoeboxes for Springboard: Tuesday 10 December

Lara Nath – 6JG, Leah O’Neill – 6JG and Hope Denton – 6AC are Girl Scouts in Troop 16. Part of their Community Service is to put together shoeboxes for Christmas that get distributed by Springboard. This year they visited Years 4, 5 and 6 to talk about the project, and asked their fellow students to get involved as well. It was a hugely successful decision, and on Tuesday, 141 shoeboxes made their way from BSM to an orphanage that Springboard work with. Thank you very much BSM.

BFG and Christmas Concert Donations

Another big thank you to the generous BSM community. We collected Php 38,010 at the BFG show on Tuesday evening, and another Php 34,164 at the Christmas Concert on Thursday. The money raised at these collections, and from the sale of Christmas Cards have all been used to make Christmas just a little brighter for many children and families in Manila. We have been able to support a number of Service Learning Partners with practical gifts, food parcels, school shoes, and small gifts. We would like to say a huge BSM Thank you to everyone who made it happen.

Springboard School Shoes and Teddies: Wednesday 11 December

The distribution of shoes and teddies took place on Wednesday. We will share the photos when we have them in January. We hear the street children of Sun for All Children were very grateful.

Food Hampers to Young Focus Families

In addition to the Springboard school shoes and teddies, BSM have also supported Young Focus, one of our Service Partners working with children and their families in Tondo this Christmas. Young Focus runs a preschool for 150 children, supports about 700 students in elementary, high school and college / university, and has spaces for 200 participants in their school dropout programmes. Young Focus prepares young people for the future, primarily through education. However, their holistic approach includes the parents and families of the children and young people they work with, and this Christmas, we have donated 60 family food buckets to help those less fortunate at this time of year. We are hoping to work more closely with Young Focus in 2020, starting with building a relationship and understanding with our Year 6 students.

If you would like more information about Young Focus, please visit: Go to to find out more about the appeal, and how you can donate.
