Dear BSM Family,
As you may be aware, Ms Rebekah Russell, our Head of Senior School, will sadly be leaving BSM at the end of this academic year. Following her advice of departure, for family reasons in October, we embarked on a recruitment process for a new Head of Senior School, for August 2020. The process culminated in a shortlist of three external international candidates. Following a rigorous selection and interview process we did not feel that any of the external candidates would be a good fit for BSM and the role, and so looked closer to home.
We have now concluded our extended selection process, with the appointment of the most suitable and eminently qualified person. He has the required pedagogical and institutional knowledge in abundance, a deep connection with BSM philosophy and provides a continuity and stability we will not find elsewhere. Furthermore, with the established, knowledgeable and talented senior and middle leaders already in place in Senior School, we have a strong and committed team ready to lead BSM Senior School.
I am delighted to announce that Mr Richard Healy has been appointed as Head of Senior School at BSM from August 2020.
The Coronavirus, now formally named COVID-19, continues to be front-of-mind for us. Please be reminded that our communications on COVID-19 to the BSM family are based on input from the Philippine government, PSA, iSOS and WHO and we endeavour at all times to provide prudent advice in consideration of the broader situation.
During the break, we will continue to monitor the situation daily and draw on advice from these key agencies. We will only be in a position to feedback on where we are, and what further impacts the virus will have on us, late next week, when we know better how matters are progressing.
We are pleased to advise that Doctors from International SOS will hold a Parent Information Session on COVID-19 on Wednesday, 26 February at 8am in LRC Level 2.
I wish you all a family-filled Half Term break.

Our Reception parents enjoyed their maths workshop on Wednesday, exploring all the hands-on learning activities that were set up for them.
In the Whole School assembly this morning, we heard reports from our fabulous Year 2, 4 and 5 residential trips. Trips take children out of their comfort zone and challenge them. Nine of the merit awards given out last week were related to the residentials, with children demonstrating skills or dispositions prompted by the challenging situations that trips provide.
Following the assembly this morning, Primary students decamped to the Covered Court for the annual visit of the Binondo Lion Dance Group. As ever this was a spectacular celebration of the Chinese New Year.
